LA Restaurant Week is back!

Woohoo!

October 4 - 9 / October 11-16

Restaurant.com

Yikes! I almost forgot that this blog existed! I guess Shandrew's been spending too much time on Yelp instead.

Just want to introduce an awesome website/concept to all of our 5 readers out there.

Restaurant.com is a great site to get discount gift certificates. You can purchase $25 gift certificates to various restaurants at up to 70% to 90% off! During the last promotion they ran a couple weeks ago, I bought FIVE $25 gift certificates for a total of $5. That's a savings of $120! Total recession buster!

Since I discovered Restaurant.com, I have used/purchased gift certificates to the following restaurants:

  • Zipangu, Costa Mesa - used already
  • Shimura, Fountain Valley
  • Lamppost Pizza, Fountain Valley - used already
  • Top Class Pizza, Fullerton
  • Maki Maki, Irvine
  • Koki's Teppan, Irvine
  • Chakra, Irvine
  • Swaad, Irvine - used already
  • Taleo Grill, Irvine - used already
  • Alegria Cocina Latina, Long Beach - used already
  • Cafe Sevilla, Long Beach
  • L'Opera, Long Beach
  • The Auld Irisher Irish Pub & Restaurant, Orange - used already
  • The Four Seasons Tea Room, Sierra Madre - used already
  • Red Brick Pizza, Tustin
Out of the ones I've used so far - all worked fabulously! I encourage everyone to take a look at the site and see if any restaurants interest you.

Note: All gift certificates have guidelines in order to redeem. Make sure to read carefully before purchasing.

Neglect...

So we've been neglecting this blog. I, however, refuse to let it die. Especially when great R&B music is being made. Here's the latest in my favorite tunes... Miley Cyrus done proper!

Enjoy!

Break of Dawn... Recycling the R&B...

I have not abandoned you folks, don't worry! Although I have moved on to bigger (not better) and yelpier things, I will continue to share photos and excerpts/links of the reviews I have on here because, hey, it kills the time. Also, I figure if I have musical thoughts, recipes or anything food or music related that isn't yelp-worthy, well... it goes here!

So here's an excerpt from my review of an amazing brunch place called Break of Dawn, with pics!

Numerous friends of mine have visited this small brunch place and have had nothing but amazing things to say about it. To say I had high expectations when I walked in would be an understatement. I expected nothing short of mind-blowing food and that's exactly what I got, sweeeeeet!

First of all, be prepared to try some very "not so breakfast" types
of dishes if you want to truly appreciate the food. True, there are dishes that can pass for regular breakfast but if you truly want to experience the chef's creativity, try something you never would have imagined eating in the morning... (link to rest of review)

On to things of the musical nature...

I find it very interesting when artisits recycle their melodies to create new singles and make even more money. The latest artist to do this is Ne-yo who, if you sing the song "Bust it Baby, part 2" over his latest single, "Be on You", is guilty of recycling one song to do another. Don't get me wrong, do what you gotta do cuz I like both singles. But I just think it's really funny. So here's both. Go ahead and try to sing the chorus of one over the other and you'll see what I mean.

Again, I really like both of the songs, I just think it's very funny. So there's some food and music hits for all you neglected persons that actually read our blog.

Me too!

Yes, we've both succumbed to Yelp. I have used it for years to find good restaurants and other services, but never had a desire to write reviews until now. Our hope is to become Yelp Elite!

You can find ME on Yelp here:

But Andrew has the gift of writing so his reviews are definitely more entertaining than mine! Enjoy!

Here's one of my favorite songs of all time: "People Change" by Rockapella. Bringing back my acapella roots!

Quick Hit: Omelette House

Shana and I had plans to eat breakfast with Chayphet the other day and we were searching for something in our area that would provide some decent chow, morning style.  We've done the Original Pancake House and we were looking for another specialty place.  Denny's would not be good enough.

Fortunately for us, yelp.com was ready and able to help us find a little hole-in-the-wall omelette place called, The Omelette House.  I was surprised to find that there weren't many people there (we had no wait at all) and I was a little apprehensive about whether or not the food would be as good as the reviews said.  After scoping out the menu, I was very happy with the prices.  Pancakes were around $5 for a pair, early bird specials starting at as low as $4 and the omelettes were between $6 and $8.  I ordered an Italian omelette and Shana had the chocolate chip pancakes.  She also ordered coffee which is supposed to be very good there, some brand called LavAzza.

When the food arrived, I was very impressed with the portions.  The pancakes were ridiculously huge and my plate was overflowing with my omelette and some of the most delicious hash browns I've had.  They were actually more like country-style potatoes but were very crispy like hash browns.  They did not skimp on meat in my Italian omelette and the sausage was complimented well with the peppers and mushrooms.  Shana's pancakes were also very delicious - they were fluffy with a crisp crust and plenty of chocolate chips in every bite.  The meal ended
up being a little over $20 for 3 people, definitely worth it considering how full we were
 afterwards.

So if you're looking for a new breakfast spot to try out, I definitely recommend the Omelette House.  Not only is it inexpensive, but the food is delicious and, if this visit is any indication, it is an undiscovered gem for Garden Grove residents.

Cheers!

When I was a Child...

So I've been obsessing over a new song lately because it makes me think of how much "happier" I was when I was child.  No responsibilities, no worries, innocence, etc.

That brings me to James Morrison's, "Once When I Was Little".  He's got a very unique voice and it works well with this mellow acoustic style song.

Enjoy!

The Dream and The Diva

I know people always rag on Mariah Carey for being a huge diva and her slutty wardrobe, but I still think she is an amazing vocalist. This song doesn't quite stretch her vocal abilities, but it is quickly topping the charts.

"My Love" - The Dream featuring Mariah Carey

Hear it on my new favorite station - 97.1 AMP. No commercials!
